At the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Bernhard Küster, Professor of Proteomics and Bioanalytics, and his team are investigating how therapeutic drugs work, which molecular mechanisms play a role in cancer, and how these can be used for individualized approaches in clinical treatment. For a current study, the professor's team treated cells with various doses of 144 active substances. Subsequently, the proteins were extracted and analyzed using mass spectrometry. Mass spectrometers are highly sensitive measuring devices. Before each series of measurements, they must be carefully calibrated to achieve the best possible results.
