Activation of EndMT in atherosclerotic plaques in mice with progeria
The left panel shows an atherosclerotic plaque in an artery of a healthy mouse; the right panel shows a plaque in a mouse with progeria. The nuclei of all cell in the artery wall are stained blue. The endothelial cells (green, with white nuclei) normally form a single-cell layer that separates the content of the atherosclerotic plaque (P) from the blood vessel lumen (L). In progeria, cells with characteristics of endothelial cells are found inside the atherosclerotic plaque, an atypical location for this cell type.
