The variation of output power and thermal efficiency with porosity and wire diameter (IMAGE)
Caption
An appropriate increase in porosity expands the hydraulic diameter and increases the dead volume. With a larger effective cross-sectional area for fluid flow and a reduced wetted area in contact with the working fluid, the pressure drop across the regenerator decreases. This reduction in pressure drop leads to lower flow resistance losses, thereby improving the engine's output work and cycle efficiency.
