Preparing the Ocean Buoy for Deployment in Monterey Bay

The NPS Ocean Sensing Buoy project provides a platform to support collaborative research between NPS and a host of potential partners, focused on studies of Monterey Bay. During staging at Monterey Bay Boatworks prior to the buoy’s deployment, NPS president retired U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Ann Rondeau, provost Jim Newman, physics chair Kevin Smith, and professor emeritus Tim Stanton met with NPS staff, as well as professor Barbara Block of Stanford University's Hopkins Marine Station, to discuss instrumentation and operations.
