Self-Powered Ocean Buoy Deployed in Monterey Bay (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) assist in deploying an Ocean Power Technologies self-powered buoy for oceanographic and meteorological studies and 24/7 maritime domain awareness applications. The buoy employs AT&T 5G communication technologies to relay data real-time to NPS. The buoy was deployed by Westar Marine Services with support from Stanford University’s Hopkins Marine Station and its unqiue, electrically-powered vessel carrying NPS observers.
