Kobe University dermatologist KUBO Akiharu discovered that foot odor associated with Nagashima-type palmoplantar keratosis (NPPK) was caused by an abundance of bacteria, especially Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum. Treatment using benzoyl peroxide saw decreased bacteria levels and a subsequent reduction of foot odor.
