Identification of individuals in early disease stages via blood-based biomarkers
A new study from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and Oslo University Hospital, Norway, shows that biomarkers related to two processes - DNA damage repair and the cellular stress response - can be detected in the blood during the initial stages of the disease. This may make it possible to identify patients in the very earliest phase of Parkinson’s. The discovery opens the door to early diagnosis via blood tests, as well as future treatment strategies.
