Highly oxidized precursor enables cleaner synthesis of negative thermal expansion material (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers developed a simultaneous reverse coprecipitation–oxidation strategy that produces a highly oxidized amorphous precursor containing high-valent bismuth and nickel species. The precursor enables direct synthesis of the negative thermal expansion material BiNi₁₋ₓFeₓO₃ without external oxidants, reducing environmental impact while improving safety and synthesis efficiency. Fine particles produced through this route exhibit stable negative thermal expansion behavior over a broad temperature range.
