M5.3 flare as seen by Sunrise III (IMAGE)
Caption
On 13 July 2024, Sunrise III observed an M5.3-class solar flare. The image shows observational data from the TuMag instrument, which filters out different wavelengths and polarisation states of the captured visible sunlight. This data provides insight into the various layers of the photosphere and chromosphere, enabling conclusions to be drawn about the strength and structure of the magnetic field. The two images on the left depict the photosphere (first image) and the lowest part of the chromosphere (second image) at the time of the flare. The two images on the right depict the magnetic field properties in these layers (third image: photosphere, fourth image: lowest part of the chromosphere) at the same time.
