Carollia bat being freed from the mist net (IMAGE)
Caption
At a tunnel in Gamboa, where the Carollia bats roost, researchers install mist nets outside one of the entrances, to catch bats that fly out of the tunnel, while a few others equipped with butterfly nets walk into the tunnel to try to catch as many bats as possible. Members of the teams wait outside the tunnel ready to remove the bats that fly into the mist nets. The captured bats are placed into individual cloth bags and transported back to the lab for analysis. Only adult males and females are captured, and no pregnant bats, or nursing mothers with pups.
