The GSNOR gene is required for high iron tolerance throughout plants. Iron toxicity leads to impaired leaf and root growth. Plants (Arabidopsis thaliana) with the functional gene (left three seedlings) grow better in the condition with high iron levels than plants without the functioning GSNOR gene (right three seedlings).
