Localization of phosphorylated α-synuclein (αSyn) and co-staining with synaptic (a) or axonal (b) markers 1 day (a), 3 days (b), and 5 days (b) after adding α-synuclein aggregates formed in vitro to primary cultured cells prepared from mouse brain. Dot-like phosphorylated α-synuclein observed 1 day after addition is localized to synapses, projecting phosphorylated α-synuclein observed 3 days after addition is localized to axons, and aggregated phosphorylated α-synuclein observed 5 days after addition is localized to neuronal cell bodies.
