Metal Soaps Figure (IMAGE)
Caption
NIST used a spectroscopy technique called photothermal induced resonance (PTIR) to identify the metal soaps in the paint sample. The technique provides IR spectra (top image) and chemical maps (bottom image) at a resolution of 10 to 20 nanometers. Both show the zinc metal soaps identified.
