わずかに異なる2枚の層を特定の角度で重ね合わせると、モアレ模様が生じる。分光学の分野では、モアレ模様に合わせて材料中のエネルギー準位が変化する。この現象が「モアレポテンシャル」である。研究チームは、エネルギーが最小となる場所に励起子が集中する傾向があることを発見した。
