Live eustigmatophyte cells (IMAGE)

Live eustigmatophyte cells which were isolated from soil before 1925, making these cells a unique reference strain and one of the treasures of Göttingen University’s culture collection of algae. Top half shows larger vegetative cells with remnants of old cell walls. Lower half shows division stages, several daughter cells still encircled by remnants of their parental walls. Scale bar is 10 µm.
