PyrPeg, a compound that specifically stains accumulated amyloid-beta plaques, shows that astrocyte-specific knockdown of ODC1 reduces the number of amyloid plaques in the AD mouse model brain (left). Neuronal inhibition is recovered (top right) by ODC1 silencing, as can be seen by the number of spikes produced on current injection in the hippocampus. Recovery of memory loss can be seen in the improved performance of the ODC1-silenced AD mouse in the Passive Avoidance Test (right bottom).
