“Live" tutor triggers learning from his singing (IMAGE)

The researchers recorded from neurons in different regions of a juvenile’s brain while a tutor sang to it. Neurons in two brain areas – the NCM and the LC – were more active in response to the tutor’s singing than to the playback of recorded song. Also, hearing the tutor’s singing enhances the neurons’ response to the recording, suggesting interacting with a live tutor triggers learning.
