(a) A diagram of an isolated QW for investigating the generalized thermalization, which contains two parts: the discrete infinite lattice and spin (coin) subsystem , coupled by the spin-orbit interaction. (b) The experimental realization of QW involves the following four modules. 1) heralded signal photons are generated via the spontaneous parametric down-conversion in the BBO2 crystal. 2) quantum state engineering technique for system initialization. 3) 10-step quantum walk dynamics. 4) a polarization projection and an up-converted device for analyzing the details of the signal-photon pulse train.
