vLGN inhibitory influence on superior colliculus (IMAGE)

vLGN specifically inhibits neurons in the midbrain area superior colliculus that respond to visual threat. Thereby it can specifically block the pathway in the brain that mediates reactions to such threat - something the animal sees that could pose a danger.
