If the cell’s protein ULK1 is inhibited, the virus production in the cells is drastically increased. This explains why poliovirus tries to degrade ULK1. The animation shows different viewpoints of a poliovirus-infected cell in which the researchers have completely inactivated ULK1 and a arge number of new virus particles have formed (in red).
