Sissa Medialab

“The work done by SISSA Medialab over the past months—and set to continue—has greatly enhanced Janeway, tailoring it to accommodate large hard-science journals. Our collaboration with the Open Library of Humanities based at Birkbeck, University of London, that began building Janeway in 2017 proved to be strategic and beneficial for everybody. This partnership has allowed for an enlargement of the Janeway community and provided scientists with a robust platform that caters to the needs of both the hard sciences and the humanities”, commented Aldo Rampioni, CEO of SISSA Medialab.

“Its absolutely fantastic to see this milestone! It’s always exciting to see Janeway being adopted in new contexts, and the work SISSA Medialab has done to extend the platform for larger, hard-science journals is a brilliant example of the value of external contributions. It strengthens the whole community and keeps Janeway growing in ways that benefit everyone,” commented Andy Byers, Director of Publishing Technology at the Open Library of Humanities.

The migration to Janeway promises significant advantages for JCOM and other journals, delivering a modern and flexible system that aligns with best practices in scholarly publishing. Designed with a modular, expandable, and interoperable architecture, the platform is equipped to address the dynamic demands of scientific publishing, including challenges related to open science and AI tools integration.

“We are confident the new web system will greatly benefit our journals’ users. The updated, responsive interface streamlines workflows, enabling authors, editors, reviewers, and staff to efficiently access key information and manage tasks with just a few clicks. Customized features have been, and will continue to be, developed to ensure the perfect balance between functionality and user-friendliness for each community”, comments Maria Teresa Leo, Editorial Office supervisor and Janeway development project manager at SISSA Medialab.

With this technological innovation, SISSA Medialab reaffirms its commitment to providing cutting-edge editorial tools in an increasingly complex publishing environment.
