“The Bray Obesity Symposium provides researchers with the latest insights and guidance from my colleagues at Pennington Biomedical and other obesity centers around the country,” said Dr. Donna Ryan, professor emerita of Pennington Biomedical. “As obesity rates continue to rise, the valuable insights and expertise shared by these researchers will serve as a tremendous asset in medical facilities around the globe.”
The Bray Obesity Symposium is presented by Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and is named for the center’s founding executive director, Dr. George Bray. He is internationally recognized for his research in obesity in both the basic science and clinical realms, with more than 2,000 publications and an H-Index greater than 120. He is one of the founders and past President of the Obesity Society and the International Association for the Study of Obesity.
“Dr. Bray is an inspiration to us all, and we are honored to offer this symposium in his name to foster the growth of the next generation of obesity medicine physicians,” said Dr. John Kirwan, Executive Director of Pennington Biomedical. “The symposium was developed by leading faculty members here at Pennington Biomedical, as well as with the assistance colleagues from collaborating institutions. We are proud to structure this symposium so that participants can further their careers with credits and ABOM certification exam preparation.”
The Bray Obesity Symposium is intended to provide participants with powerful obesity treatment strategies that can be quickly implemented into practice, providing better support for patients with obesity. The learning objectives for the symposium include:
- Demonstrating an understanding of the determinants of obesity, including the role of genetics and epigenetics.
- Identifying and evaluating patients with the chronic disease of obesity.
- Developing evidence-based obesity management options, including pharmacologic approaches, lifestyle interventions and metabolic surgery as patient-centered approaches for weight loss and improved outcomes in obesity comorbidities.
- Applying current multiple individualized treatment modalities to effectively address obesity.
