Sports cardiology conference aims to equip the entire cardiovascular care team to care for patients

Meeting Announcement

American College of Cardiology

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) will host the annual Care of the Athletic Heart conference on June 12 – 14 in Washington, DC. The hybrid event will bring together leading experts in sports cardiology to discuss emerging strategies for improving the cardiovascular care of all athletes.

The demand for specialized cardiovascular care among athletes has spiked, with cardiologists seeing five athlete patients on average every week. This educational experience aims to equip cardiovascular care teams with the tools they need to succeed in this rapidly growing field.

“We’ve worked hard to put together the core curriculum that attendees need to start or improve their sports cardiology practice. New this year, the course is co-sponsored with the European Association of Preventative Cardiology and co-chaired by my colleague, Michael Papadakis. This international collaboration uniquely allows us to bring not just the U.S., but the world's experts together as faculty,” said course co-chair Meagan Wasfy, MD, MPH, FACC. “Our focus is on putting together case-based, interactive learning that covers core sports cardiology tools such as ECG, imaging and CPET and how to apply these tools in the care of competitive and tactical athletes.”

The annual conference is geared towards all clinicians who treat and manage the cardiovascular care of athletes of all levels, from professional athletes to exercise enthusiasts. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in expert panel discussions and gain valuable insights to elevate the care of their patients. The sessions will explore a wide range of topics, including the following:

  • CPET in Sports Cardiology
  • Shared Decision Making in Sports Cardiology
  • Cardiovascular Care of the Young Athlete
  • Cardiovascular Considerations For Exercise in the Extremes
  • Cardiovascular Care of the Masters Athlete

“Sports cardiology is relevant to the daily practice of all physicians who prescribe exercise as part of healthy living, for cardiovascular disease prevention or those with cardiovascular disease. Whether you care for elite athletes or recreational exercisers, this is the course for you,” said course co-chair Michael Papadakis, MBBS, MD, MRCP.

ACC Care of the Athletic Heart 2025 will be available for virtual attendance and part of the ACC Anywhere platform. Learn more about the meeting and see the full agenda here.
