Los Angeles, CA – June 25, 2025 - The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) is proud to announce that Dr. Yangzhi Zhu, Assistant Professor at TIBI, has been honored with the 2024 Biosensors Young Investigator Award.

This prestigious award recognizes early-career researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the field of biosensors. All nominations were evaluated by a distinguished committee led by the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Giovanna Marrazza.

Dr. Zhu’s research focuses on the development of flexible biosensors and wearable bioelectronics for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. His lab leads interdisciplinary efforts in creating next-generation wearable devices for personalized healthcare, including innovations such as electronic skin for non-invasive, real-time health monitoring and smart contact lenses for continuously monitoring of tear biomarkers and closed-loop ocular treatment delivery.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Biosensors 2024 Young Investigator Award,” said Dr. Zhu. “This recognition highlights our team’s dedication to translating novel biosensing technologies from the bench to clinically relevant platforms. I am grateful to my team at the Institute as well as my collaborators for their support and look forward to continuing our work on continuous monitoring biosensors that can improve patient outcomes or life quality.”

Dr. Zhu joined TIBI in 2020 after completing his postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Diego, and earning his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Riverside.

We congratulate Dr. Yangzhi Zhu on this remarkable achievement and take pride in his continued contributions to the field of biomedical innovation.
