Materials and Solidification, an international journal dedicated to advancing research in solidification theory, materials design, and processing technology, has officially launched its inaugural issue. Published by Tsinghua University Press and supported by the State Key Laboratory of Solidification Processing, Northwestern Polytechnical University, the journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Prof. Jinshan Li and Executive Editor Prof. Junjie Wang. It aims to serve as a high-level academic platform for global researchers and engineers to drive innovations in solidification science and its industrial applications.
- Solidification Research: The Core of Materials Science and Processing
Solidification is pivotal in modern materials manufacturing, from traditional casting and crystal growth to cutting-edge additive manufacturing (3D printing) and rapid solidification. Precise control over solidification behavior is essential for tailoring material microstructure and optimizing properties. With breakthroughs in computational simulation, multi-scale modeling, in-situ characterization, and interdisciplinary integration (e.g., materials science with physics, chemistry, and computer science), solidification research faces both unprecedented opportunities and challenges, such as multi-disciplinary collaboration and mechanistic analysis of complex systems. - Journal Scope: Frontiers, Applications, and Interdisciplinarity
Upholding the principles of "rigor, openness, and collaboration," Materials and Solidification covers metal, ceramic, polymer, and composite systems. It addresses fundamental questions in solidification (e.g., thermodynamics, kinetics, and interface evolution) and encourages applied research on new materials development, process optimization, and failure analysis. The journal welcomes experimental, theoretical, and computational studies, particularly interdisciplinary work—such as integrating metallurgical theories with artificial intelligence or combining multi-scale modeling with in-situ characterization—to bridge scientific depth and industrial value. - Mission: Serving Global Research and Advancing Disciplines
As an international outlet, the journal fosters global academic exchange through strict peer review and open-access publishing, enabling rapid dissemination and translation of solidification research. With strong support from its editorial board, reviewers, and initial authors, it will continue to track field trends and emerging directions to bolster materials science.
"Materials and Solidification aims to create a platform that balances academic excellence and practical impact," said Prof. Li. "We look forward to collaborating with the academic and industrial communities to drive innovations in solidification and contribute to materials science."
