To deepen international academic collaboration and enhance the global impact of the journal, Yuan Qing, Party Secretary of the School of Medical Technology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; Dai Jing, Deputy Director of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Ruijin Hospital; and Wang Erliang, Director of the Editorial Office of LabMed Discovery (LMD), recently traveled to Europe for a series of academic exchanges. Centered on the core goals of "expanding cooperation, absorbing high-quality manuscript sources, and promoting scientific research projects", the delegation achieved significant outcomes through participation in international conferences, visits to leading institutions, and in-depth academic dialogues—injecting fresh momentum into the journal’s international development.
Following the establishment of the first overseas office (Rome) in 2024, the LMD team visited the Chinese Embassy in Italy again to report the progress and future plans of the journal to Minister Counselor Lu Ping. Minister Counselor Lu Ping highly affirmed LMD’s role as a bridge in promoting academic exchanges between China and Italy, and expressed his continued support for the journal's further expansion in talent introduction and project cooperation in the biomedicine field.
Moving forward, LMD aims to strengthen bidirectional integration of resources by leveraging the embassy platform to promote the implementation of joint scientific research projects between China and Italy. In addition, the journal will work to establish a structured talent exchange mechanism to support cross-border scientific research talent training.
Accompanied by Hao Xiaotong and Qu Zimin from the Science and Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in Italy, the team later visited the Biomedical Department of the National Research Council (CNR), the highest scientific research institution in Italy, and had in-depth exchanges with experts such as Director Antonio Cerasa and Francesca Argenio from the International Cooperation Department.
The National Research Council (CNR) expressed strong interest in collaboration, promising to support resource sharing by recommending international editors, providing high-quality manuscripts, and assisting LMD’s content internationalization. In terms of project coordination, both sides agreed to focus on key areas such as translational medicine and precision diagnostics, and have begun outlining plans for joint research and potential results translation.
At the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the team held a special seminar with Deputy Editor-in-Chief Professor Sergio Bernardini to discuss the preparation of the “LabMed Discovery European International Editorial Board.” The two sides reached a consensus to jointly plan special topics around emerging areas in laboratory medicine, co-host the editorial board—led by the University of Rome Tor Vergata—and utilize the LMD Rome office as a base to regularly organize academic salons that promote cross-regional exchange and sharing of research outcomes.
During the visit to the affiliated hospital of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the editorial team provided a detailed introduction to the LMD submission process, editorial board, and current special issues. A roundtable discussion was held with Deputy Editor-in-Chief Professor Sergio Bernardini at the LabMed Discovery Rome office, focusing on the development of a European-based international editorial committee, with the goal of building a high-level platform for international academic exchange and sharing the latest research findings and experiences. This initiative received a positive response from Professor Bernardini. The visit not only strengthened existing partnerships but also injected new momentum into the journal’s international development.
During this trip to Europe, LMD not only broadened the cooperation network through in-depth interaction with top international institutions, but also achieved breakthroughs in manuscript quality, internationalization of the editorial board, and implementation of scientific research projects. In the future, LMD will continue to practice the publishing concept of "openness, inclusiveness, and academic supremacy", creating a high-end exchange platform in the field of global laboratory medicine, and providing solid support for discipline development and talent training.
