Immunology has transformed humanity’s understanding of oneself and its battle against disease. Inflammation which is a primordial defense mechanism against pathogens, also acts as a double-edged sword. Today, amid rising threats from emerging pathogens and chronic inflammatory diseases, unraveling the cellular and molecular intricacies of immunity and inflammation remains a paramount quest in biomedical research. To advance the understanding of these processes, Springer Nature has launched Immunity & Inflammation, a journal that aims to publish high-quality papers that explore groundbreaking discoveries and insights across the spectrum of immunity and inflammation, from basic science to translational and clinical research.
The scope of this journal includes all areas of immunology and inflammation with a particular focus on the role of inflammation. “The journal particularly welcomes studies that examine the dual role of inflammation, including how appropriate inflammatory responses are essential for initiating and regulating normal immune functions, and how dysregulated or excessive inflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of various inflammatory diseases,” notes Professor Genhong Cheng, the Deputy Editor of Immunity & Inflammation.
By highlighting these areas, the journal seeks to foster a deeper understanding of inflammation’s role in immunity and promote innovative approaches to prevent and treat inflammation-related diseases.
To ensure quality and transparency of the research, the journal is rigorously peer-reviewed, guided by an esteemed editorial board comprising over 100 distinguished experts from 15 countries—including Nobel laureates and pioneers in immunotherapy, innate immunity, systems biology, and other areas. The journal publishes a range of article types, including Original Research Articles, Reviews, Brief Reports, and Research Highlights.
“We strive to provide the most efficient, fair, inclusive, and professional service,” claims the editorial office of the journal, “Immunity & Inflammation is deeply committed to upholding the highest standards of scientific ethics, integrity, transparency, and reproducibility.”
Importantly, Immunity & Inflammation is a fully open-access journal and currently, it will be free of charge for authors with all the APCs fully sponsored by the Chinese Society for Immunology in 2025-2026. “We are very grateful for the sponsorship of the Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI) and for receiving the designation of High Starting Point New Journal by the Excellence Journal Project of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, to help the take-off of the journal,” remarks Professor Xuetao Cao, “Together, we are very confident that we will make Immunity & Inflammation a vibrant and impactful forum.”
