The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) announces that the 9th IOF Asia-Pacific Bone Health Conference will officially begin in just three weeks, taking place from December 11–13, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan.

As the Asia-Pacific region faces a rapidly growing burden of osteoporosis and fracture-related health challenges, this major scientific congress will bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers to exchange knowledge and shape the future of bone health across the region. By 2050, more than half of all osteoporotic hip fractures worldwide are expected to occur in Asia—underscoring the urgency and importance of regional collaboration.

The Conference will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants who cannot travel to Tokyo to follow the main sessions online. All registered delegates will also benefit from on-demand access to the conference sessions for three months after the event.

A key milestone of the meeting will be the launch of the IOF Asia-Pacific Regional Audit 2025, which will provide up-to-date data from 22 countries/regions and offer critical insights to guide osteoporosis prevention, management, and policy initiatives.

Hosted at the Hamamatsucho Convention Hall in Tokyo, the conference is co-chaired by Professor Nicholas Harvey (IOF President) and Professor Atsushi Suzuki (IOF Board member and Conference Steering Committee Co-chair). Leading experts and representatives from major regional organizations comprise the scientific committee and serve as speakers on the scientific programme.

As a premier platform for scientific exchange, the conference will showcase the latest clinical advances, evidence-based strategies, and innovations designed to improve patient care. Participants will also benefit from extensive networking opportunities with peers and specialists from across the Asia-Pacific. Sessions will be delivered in English, with Japanese interpretation available during Q&A.

The event also offers CME accreditation for members of the Japan Osteoporosis Foundation, the Taiwanese Osteoporosis Association, and the Hong Kong College of Physicians.

Programme Highlights

The programme includes abstract-based oral and poster presentations, three sponsored sessions and eight plenary sessions focused on:

  • IOF–APCO Joint Session: Burden of Osteoporosis in the Asia Pacific
  • IOF–JSBMR Joint Session: Nutrition, Exercise, and Bone Health
  • Fracture Risk Assessment
  • Skeletal Fragility Due to Rare Bone Disorders and Secondary Osteoporosis
  • IOF–JOS–FFN-J Joint Session: Falls and Fracture
  • IOF–KSBMR–KSO Joint Session: Artificial Intelligence & Innovative Technologies in Bone Health Assessment
  • IOF–ESCEO Joint Session (Bone Turnover Markers, guideline development, PTHRAs)

Additionally, the Opening Ceremony, from 17:30 on December 11th, will feature three outstanding Keynote Lectures.

Ahead of the opening, IOF will offer a ‘Fundamentals of Osteoporosis’ training course, presented in Japanese for local healthcare professionals, as well as a dedicated Capture the Fracture® session focused on enhancing regional fracture liaison services.

“This event serves as a vital platform to advance knowledge, drive collaboration, and tackle the rising burden of osteoporosis in the Asia-Pacific region,” said IOF CEO Dr. Philippe Halbout. “By sharing the latest research and management strategies, we can collectively improve patient outcomes and promote better bone health throughout the region.”

Registration Still Open
