Applicants may apply until January 28 for the “São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Immigration, Environmental Violence and Colonialism: Strategies and Policies for Current Dynamics of Expulsion and Resistance” (https://internationaloffice.usp.br/spsas/), which will be held from July 25 to August 5, 2026, at the University of São Paulo’s Institute of Psychology (IP-USP) in São Paulo city, Brazil.

This School is open for undergraduate students, graduate students (master’s and doctoral) and early career (postdoctoral) researchers.

Organized by the Laboratory of Psychoanalysis, Society and Politics (PSOPOL) at IP-USP, the School is an interdisciplinary laboratory involving sociology, anthropology, political science, psychology, psychoanalysis, education, environmental studies, and related fields.

The school is driven by the ethical, political, and scientific urgency stemming from the various crises converging on contemporary societies while interconnecting among themselves: mass forced displacements, war resurgence, environmental collapse, growing social inequalities, and the erosion of fundamental rights, alongside the rise of authoritarian regimes – events that are reshaping forms of life, subjectivities, and possibilities for resistance.

The discussions at the School will benefit greatly from the participation of internationally renowned researchers as speakers, such as Carlos Nobre, co-chair of the Science Panel for the Amazon; Shose Kessi, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Cape Town, South Africa; Sean Jacobs, Director of the Graduate Program in International Affairs at The New School in New York, USA; Francesco Callegaro, professor at the National University of San Martín, Argentina; Roberto Beneduce, full professor at the Department of Culture, Politics & Society at the University of Turin, Italy; Miriam Debieux Rosa, Full Professor at IP-USP’s Department and Graduate Program in Clinical Psychology; Marie Caroline Saglio-Yatzimirsky, statutory researcher at CESSMA (UMR 245, Paris Cité/INALCO/IRD) in France; Gabriel Feltran, Professor of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, France), affiliated with the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE) at Sciences Po; Daniel Munduruku, a Brazilian writer and activist for the rights of the Munduruku people, with a PhD in Education at USP; and Petronilha B. Gonçalves e Silva, Senior Professor in the Department of Theories and Pedagogical Practices of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Brazil.

Reporters are invited to register for the scientific sessions and short courses, which will present state-of-the-art science and the results of new research.

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) is supporting the event through its São Paulo School of Advanced Science Program (SPSAS http://espca.fapesp.br/home).

FAPESP will cover airfare, travel insurance and daily stipends (FAPESP rates) for accommodation, food and transportation for all students coming from other cities, states, or countries ( except FAPESP scholarship holders).

Up to 100 students will be selected to participate in the course – 25 students from the state of São Paulo; 25 from other Brazilian states; 25 international students from the Global North; and 25 from the Global South.

Participants will be selected based on their academic profile and trajectory, and by the quality of the motivation letters and other documents. The selection process will consider criteria of gender balance and ethnic/racial diversity.

Applications must be submitted by January 28, 2026, via the event’s website: https://internationaloffice.usp.br/spsas/. Results will be disclosed on February 28.
