The American Meteorological Society (AMS) announced a new partnership with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to provide IPCC authors with access to the AMS portfolio of peer-reviewed scientific publications in support of the Panel’s Seventh Assessment Report (AR7).

Through this collaboration, IPCC authors—including those from developing countries and researchers facing institutional or financial access barriers—will be able to draw upon AMS’s extensive library of atmospheric, oceanic, hydrologic, and climate science research as they assess the latest findings on climate change.

“This partnership reflects AMS’s longstanding commitment to advancing climate science in service of society,” said Dave Stensrud, President of the American Meteorological Society. “By ensuring equitable access to trusted, peer-reviewed research, AMS is helping to strengthen the scientific foundation of the IPCC’s assessment process and support a diverse, global community of experts contributing to AR7.”

AMS publishes a broad portfolio of high-impact journals spanning the atmospheric and related sciences. As a nonprofit scholarly society, AMS plays a central role in disseminating authoritative research, convening scientific communities, and supporting evidence-based decision-making on weather, climate, and water challenges.

“We welcome the American Meteorological Society's decision to open up access to their publications to IPCC authors. This is a timely and much-valued contribution, empowering our authors from all parts of the globe to assess comprehensively the rapidly growing body of science related to climate change. Our upcoming reports will provide the scientific foundations for sound policymaking,” said IPCC Chair Jim Skea. “The new partnership with AMS sends an important signal and encouragement as we anticipate reaching similar arrangements with other leading publishing houses.”

By partnering with the IPCC, AMS reinforces its role as a trusted steward of climate knowledge and a champion of inclusive, global scientific collaboration. In another effort aimed at supporting climate assessments, AMS has partnered with the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in the U.S. Climate Collection, a compendium of research papers that will be made freely available to the public, and the global research community, and to decision-makers across public policy and industry to inform the assessment of risks and solutions to climate change in the United States.
