University of Strathclyde

US-based global sensors solutions provider Interlink Electronics is working with the University of Strathclyde to establish an engineering centre in Scotland.

Interlink has announced its intention to set up a new Scottish base in Glasgow. The company has ambitious plans to add personnel and resources to serve its European customers, by recruiting an initial multidisciplinary team of five engineers.

Interlink is establishing a new UK-based entity, Interlink Electronics Limited, with the assistance of Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International and CENSIS.

Professor Graham Wren from Strathclyde has been providing strategic advice to Interlink and will help support the company in the venture.

Professor Wren said: “We are delighted Interlink has chosen Glasgow and the UK as its European base. We welcome Interlink as a member of our growing community of industrial partners.

“The company has an exemplary record of developing and manufacturing sensor technology; its continuing expansion is a testament to the quality of its technology and its success in the market.

“Strathclyde is ideally placed to work with CENSIS and the wider Scottish and UK academic community to support Interlink on its new venture. We look forward to assisting the company in building further on its achievements.”

Steven Bronson, Chairman, President, and CEO of Interlink Electronics, said: "The establishment of our new UK footprint in Scotland is a crucial step in growing our business and supporting our important and growing European customer base.

"Expanding our technical presence in Europe will also give us access to a fresh pool of engineering talent from across the UK."

Vicki MacLean, Growth and Inward Investment Manager at Skills Development Scotland (SDS) said: “In choosing Glasgow for its base, Interlink recognises the exceptional skills and business environment we have to offer.

“SDS, as part of our Team Scotland approach, has worked with partners to help Interlink identify their skills needs and build a talented team. We will keep working with them to develop a skills pipeline to help them grow in the future.”

Mark Hallan, Director of Global Investment at Scottish Enterprise said: “The decision by Interlink to choose Glasgow for their European base is most welcome and we were pleased to work both with the company in California and our partners here in Scotland to help them make the move.  It is that collaborative spirit that helps Scotland stand out from the crowd when it comes to attracting inward investment.

“Interlink’s sensor technology is cutting edge and the company’s plans for Scotland are very exciting.  Scottish Enterprise looks forward to working with Interlink as they develop their presence in Glasgow.

“Scotland is open for business and our investment specialists across the world will continue to highlight why innovative companies, such as Interlink, should choose our country for global growth.”

Interlink’s plans for Scotland continue the company’s strategic growth around the globe. It follows the opening in the past year of a new R&D centre and advanced materials science laboratory and new corporate headquarters, all in California.
