Parasitic weeds of Jordan

Species, hosts, distribution and management - Part 1

Book Announcement

Bentham Science Publishers

Parasitic weeds are almost 5000 species spread in different parts of the world and represent a major threat to agriculture and environment. These species obtain their needs from other host plants that supply parasites by growth factors. Parasitic weeds are different in their requirements for germination, attachment to host parts they attack, degree of dependence on hosts, and presence or absence of chlorophyll while parasite/host relations are complicated.

This book presents the latest research findings on certain parasitic species that take place in Jordan and spread in the Middle East countries on their biology, ecology, distribution, economic losses, host ranges, and control methods. It includes information on parasitic families, genera and species that found in Jordan flora and their hosts. It also provides coloured photos for the parasites and their hosts spread in different geographical regions in the country.

The book presents the most recent developments on management of these parasites in different economic crops grown in Jordan and the area in general. It is a valuable source of information for researchers, students as well as farmers, enables a better understanding of these parasites and their unusual mysterious growth habits. The book is of two volumes; the first includes information on root parasitic genera belong to the Orobanchaceae, Santalaceae, and Cynomoriaceae families while the second volume dealt with stem parasites of the Cuscutaceae, Loranthaceae and Viscaceae families.
