Irregular sleep in preschool-age children is associated with lower verbal and memory performance

A new study to be presented at the SLEEP 2026 annual meeting found that irregular sleep — including variability in sleep timing and duration — was associated with lower receptive vocabulary and visuospatial memory scores in preschool-age children, even after accounting for total sleep duration.

How our biological clock starts and keeps ticking

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Professor Christopher Hammell and his team have discovered that proteins MYRF-1 and LIN-42 act as the master developmental clock in C. elegans, scheduling the start time and duration of the worm’s four larval stages. This is the first non-repeating biological clock of its kind ever found.
