Researchers at Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago have proposed a new optical memory technology using rare-earth elements and quantum defects for energy-efficient, high-density data storage.

The FFDG team is comprised of four entities: the University of Chicago (UChicago), Universities Research Association, Inc. (URA), Amentum Environment & Energy, Inc. (Amentum), and Longenecker & Associates (L&A).
