Comparison of simulated magnetic field profiles for the old (blue) and new (red) solenoid designs, obtained using Poisson/Superfish.

The new solenoid design features an enlarged pureiron yoke (radius increased from 31.75 mm to 38 mm, length doubled from 58.6 mm to 120 mm). This modification significantly reduces the first derivative of the longitudinal field at the solenoid edges, lowering the spherical aberration coefficient by about 47%.
