Normal inner plexiform layer versus disordered layer

Strip1 is essential for the survival of retinal ganglion cells, which are required to form the correct retinal pattern. In the absence of Strip1, retinal ganglion cells die, and other neurons take their place, resulting in defects in the inner plexiform layer.
