The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS, President Lee Ho Seong) participated in the "Daejeon-Quebec Quantum Technology Forum" held on June 12 (local time) in Sherbrooke, Quebec, at the DistriQ Quantum Technology Innovation Zone. During the forum, KRISS, in partnership with Daejeon Technopark (Daejeon TP), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DistriQ to strengthen cooperation in the quantum industry.
This MOU marks the first step toward broad cooperation encompassing research and development (R&D), technology exchange, corporate partnerships, global market expansion, and policy network building. The three institutions will establish a collaborative framework covering the entire quantum technology industry cycle, with plans to deepen their cooperation through regular working groups, annual reciprocal visits, and joint seminars.
The forum was attended by Dr. Park Yon-Kyu (KRISS, Vice President), Dr. Kang No-Weon (KRISS, Director of the Division of Policy and Technology Services), and Dr. Lee Yong-Ho (KRISS, Head of the Center for Superconducting Quantum Computing Systems), along with Mayor Lee Jang Woo (Daejeon Metropolitan City), and representatives from Daejeon Technopark, KAIST, and major quantum companies in Daejeon. Approximately 100 participants from quantum-related institutions and companies, including representatives from DistriQ in Quebec, were present at the forum.
The MOU signing ceremony began with welcome remarks from the Mayor of Daejeon Metropolitan City and the Mayor of Sherbrooke, Quebec, followed by a promotional video on the quantum industry from Daejeon City and Dr. Kang No-Weon introduced the Quantum Transition (QX) project.
Following the signing ceremony, a technology exchange session was held, during which Dr. Lee Yong-Ho presented the research achievements and potential industrial applications of KRISS's quantum projects. His presentation focused on ongoing research in quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensors, emphasizing KRISS's plan to enhance its global competitiveness through collaboration with Quebec.
As a leading institution in quantum technology R&D in Korea, KRISS continues to strengthen Korea's global position in this field through diverse international partnerships. The MOU, signed with Daejeon City and Quebec, further strengthens this collaboration, positioning KRISS to play a pivotal role in driving global quantum technology innovation.
