In an interview published in Risk Sciences, global investor Jim Rogers reflects on contrarian thinking, risk management, global market uncertainty, emerging economies, fiat currencies, cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence, and the personal lessons that have shaped his view of investing. The article emphasizes independent judgment, firsthand observation, emotional resilience, and long-term thinking as essential tools for navigating volatile markets.
A study of non-functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NF-PanNETs) identified an AGR2high endocrine subcluster enriched in high-grade tumors and showed that simple AGR2 immunohistochemistry serves as a clinically informative prognostic marker. Mechanistically, the transcription factor FOXM1 directly drives the proliferative transcriptional program of AGR2high cells, while chemical inhibition of FOXM1 showed therapeutic benefit in tumor cells, patient-derived organoids, and xenograft models. Together, the findings provide a new approach for prognostic stratification and identify FOXM1 as a potential therapeutic vulnerability in NF-PanNETs.
The study was conducted by researchers from Southwest Petroleum University, Tongwei Solar (Chengdu) Ltd., the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and collaborating institutions in China. Published (DOI: 10.1016/j.esen.2026.100065) online on May 9, 2026, in eScience Energy, the research evaluated 2T perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells under globally varying spectral conditions and developed a practical framework to assess outdoor spectral mismatch, annual energy yield, and the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) across representative PV deployment climates and operating environments worldwide.
A team led by Wuhan University of Technology, with collaborators from Xi'an Jiaotong University, published (DOI: 10.1016/j.esen.2026.100070) the study online on May 20, 2026, in eScience Energy. The researchers investigated how c-axis dimension tailoring affects stress evolution in layered P2-type Na0.75Ni0.25Mn0.75O2 cathodes, showing that thinner grains can reduce strain build-up, improve stress dissipation, prevent internal cracking, and extend sodium-ion battery cycling stability.
Published (DOI: 10.1016/j.esen.2026.100077) online on May 26, 2026, in eScience Energy, the article presents nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) as an integrated experimental framework for understanding how liquid electrolytes organize, move, and become heterogeneous before interfacial chemistry begins.
Researchers from the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, the School of Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen, and the Institute of New Energy and Low-Carbon Technology at Sichuan University report the work in eScience Energy, published (DOI: 10.1016/j.esen.2026.100068) online on May 13, 2026. The study describes how a potassium chloride/zinc chloride (KCl/ZnCl₂) eutectic salt mixture drives the formation of layered iron–nitrogen–carbon (Fe–N–C) catalysts with Fe-N₅ single-atom sites for efficient ORR and zinc–air battery operation.
Chemical composition and stoichiometry have long been regarded as the primary determinants of a material’s electronic properties. Yet in layered materials, atomic stacking can play an equally important role. Writing in National Science Review, researchers from China demonstrate that van der Waals materials can reconfigure into adaptive hetero-phase superlattices through coordinated interlayer and intralayer sliding. The resulting structural reconfiguration produces distinct superconducting states without altering chemical composition or stoichiometry, establishing stacking engineering as a powerful route for designing emergent quantum phases.
