A recent review provides an overview of the purinergic receptor P2Y2 and its involvement in cancer-related processes. The article discusses how extracellular nucleotide signaling may influence tumor cell behavior and the tumor microenvironment, and evaluates the potential of P2Y2 as a biomarker and therapeutic target.
Prolonged nutrient deprivation drives motif-specific DNA methylation changes in Flavobacterium columnare, a major fish pathogen. Using advanced Nanopore sequencing, researchers found that specific methylation patterns—especially demethylation of a 6mA-modified motif—serve as epigenetic signatures of starvation adaptation. Temperature also influences these changes. The findings reveal a novel survival mechanism in bacteria and provide a valuable methodological reference for bacterial epigenetics.
As global climate change intensifies and agricultural environments become increasingly arid, understanding the adaptive mechanisms of terrestrial plants is critical for global food security. Plant cuticular wax forms a vital hydrophobic barrier that protects crops from severe water loss, UV radiation, and pathogen infection. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), a major drought-tolerant crop, is valued for its thick cuticular wax layer, which markedly enhances resilience to abiotic stresses. However, the key regulatory mechanisms governing cuticular wax accumulation and very-long-chain fatty acid (VLCFA) biosynthesis have remained largely uncharacterized.
A new study shows that fish embryo toxicity tests using the Chinese rare minnow may provide a promising alternative to conventional acute fish toxicity tests. By testing 26 fragrance ingredients, researchers found that malformation-based endpoints in rare minnow embryos were more closely aligned with juvenile fish toxicity than lethality-based endpoints, supporting the use of embryo tests to reduce animal use in chemical registration and ecotoxicological assessment.
Blue perovskite QLEDs are core devices for next-generation full-color displays and energy-saving solid lighting. Although their external quantum efficiency (EQE) has made great progress, the long-standing imbalance between power efficiency and luminescence performance severely restricts practical application. Researchers from Zhengzhou University adopted PVDF ordered dipole engineering to synergistically optimize carrier injection balance and suppress trap non-radiative loss. The fabricated blue perovskite QLEDs achieved record power efficiency (PE) of 43.9 lm W−1 and EQE of 28.7%, together with low turn-on voltage and outstanding luminescent stability. This work breaks the efficiency bottleneck of blue perovskite luminescent devices, and provides a universal scheme for developing low-energy-consumption perovskite optoelectronic products.
Global type 1 diabetes (T1DM) burden among children and adolescents aged 0–19 increased during 1990–2021. Incidence rose from 2.71 to 7.42 per 100,000 and prevalence from 20.75 to 56.59 per 100,000. Mortality and YLLs also increased, indicating worsening fatal outcomes. North America and Europe had the highest incidence and prevalence in 2021. Inequalities widened, with poorer countries bearing a growing and disproportionate burden of T1DM mortality and YLLs.
Metabolic regulation at the maternal-embryo interface is essential for successful embryo implantation, yet its dynamics in humans remain poorly understood because of ethical and technical constraints. Researchers established a physiologically relevant maternal-embryo interaction model by co-culturing human blastoids with 3D endometrial assembloids, enabling analysis of metabolic changes during the implantation window. The study provides a systematic view of metabolic dynamics at the human maternal-embryo interface, identifies lipid remodeling and arachidonic acid (ARA) metabolism as key regulators of maternal and embryonic responses during implantation, and offers a mechanistic basis for diagnosis and metabolic intervention strategies in implantation failure.
