VLP-mediated cytosolic delivery via receptor-triggered membrane fusion (IMAGE)
Caption
The figure details the structural components and delivery steps of an engineered virus-like particle (VLP). (Left) The VLP consists of a lipid bilayer envelope embedded with specific surface proteins and encapsulated cargo proteins. (Right) The delivery process involves the specific binding of VLP surface proteins to cell surface receptors in the extracellular space. This docking event triggers a conformational change that facilitates membrane fusion between the VLP envelope and the host plasma membrane. Consequently, the cargo proteins are directly released into the cytosol, allowing for immediate functional execution.
