Fault-tolerant paths and disjoint paths: boosting data center network reliability with augmented cubes
Higher Education PressPeer-Reviewed Publication
Researchers have developed new algorithms to enhance the reliability of data center networks (DCNs) by constructing fault-tolerant paths and maximum disjoint paths in augmented cube-based architectures. These breakthroughs address critical challenges in handling node failures and improving data transmission efficiency, which are vital as cloud computing and big data continue to drive DCN expansion. The findings were published on 15 June 2026 in Frontiers of Computer Science, a journal co-published by Higher Education Press and Springer Nature.

Freeform terahertz structures fabricated by multi-photon lithography and metal coating
Light Publishing Center, Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics And Physics, CASPeer-Reviewed Publication
Researchers have developed a novel method to fabricate high-performance terahertz devices directly on chips. The technique combines multi-photon 3D-printing with selective metal coating to create smooth, highly conductive structures with sub-micrometer precision. It enables complex 3D-geometries, does not require costly mechanical assembly steps, and supports a wide range of applications including broadband chip-to-chip connections, freeform probes, and suspended antennas operating beyond 0.3 THz. The approach could significantly advance terahertz communications, sensing, as well as test & measurement equipment.

New wheat traits for improve yields in salt-affected soils
KeAi Communications Co., Ltd.Peer-Reviewed Publication
Researchers have identified key physiological and biochemical traits that help wheat maintain productivity under sodic (salt-affected) soil conditions. The study found that proline accumulation, potassium retention, and a favorable potassium-to-sodium ratio are strongly associated with grain yield under stress. These findings provide valuable tools for breeding salt-tolerant wheat varieties and improving food security in regions affected by soil salinity.

Programmable metasurfaces steer light generated by fast electrons
Light Publishing Center, Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics And Physics, CASPeer-Reviewed Publication
Fast electron beams can make nanostructures emit light, but actively controlling where that light goes is challenging. Scientists at the University of Southern Denmark and collaborators developed a theory for programmable metasurfaces that steer this cathodoluminescence (electron-induced light) on demand. By tuning individual elements made from graphene or phase-change materials, the approach could enable reconfigurable nanoscale light sources and advanced spectroscopy tools spanning terahertz to visible frequencies.

Bioengineered bilayer scaffold with dual-modal delivery for alveolar bone regeneration in periodontitis therapy
KeAi Communications Co., Ltd.Peer-Reviewed Publication
We report a novel marine polysaccharide-based biomimetic bilayer scaffold, d-ACT@MIC/SIM, featuring a dense upper layer serving as a barrier layer and a porous lower layer mimicking the native bone matrix microenvironment. This sophisticated architecture, coupled with the programmed co-delivery of minocycline and simvastatin, endowed the scaffold with a multifaceted therapeutic armamentarium. In vitro assessments identified its significant antibacterial efficacy and osteoinductive potential. Animal experiments further validated its capacity to suppress inflammatory cytokine expression and facilitate alveolar bone regeneration. The integrated strategy of a structurally biomimetic, dual drug-releasing scaffold thus offers a significant advancement over conventional therapeutic modalities for periodontitis by concurrently addressing infection, inflammation, and tissue regeneration. As such, this innovative bilayer asymmetric bionic drug-carrying scaffolds emerge as a compelling and prospective therapeutic option for advancing periodontitis treatment.

Keeping an airport hotel comfortable near subway and high-speed rail lines
KeAi Communications Co., Ltd.Peer-Reviewed Publication
Researchers developed a two-step simulation framework to predict rail-induced vibrations in a hotel planned near Changsha Huanghua Airport Terminal 3, where subway and high-speed railway infrastructure intersect. The study found that some train operations could make floor vibrations perceptible and exceed vibration limits, while a combined track-based mitigation strategy could bring all evaluated indicators within relevant standards.
