The NEC Symposium is the world's largest meeting dedicated to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). NEC is a devastating intestinal disease that can affect premature and medically fragile infants in their first weeks and months of life. Every year in the United States, thousands of babies are diagnosed with NEC, and at least one baby dies from NEC every day. The inaugural AI in Agriculture Symposium, hosted by the Center for Agricultural Data Analytics within the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, will highlight the latest in AI research and real-world applications for agriculture on Sept. 15. free event will be offered online and in-person at the Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences, 1371 W. Altheimer Drive, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The event also features an AI in Ag Hackathon, which gives graduate students from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff a chance to address real-world scenarios commonly faced in the ag industry. The hackathon takes place Sept. 13-14 and winners will give presentations at the symposium on Sept. 15.

Launched in 2022, the SynBio Challenges is an annual initiative that empowers young innovators to tackle global challenges through synthetic biology. By promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, it drives creative and sustainable solutions for a better future.

Ten leading researchers from Kessler Foundation will share groundbreaking insights on spinal cord injury recovery, technological innovation, and caregiver support at the upcoming Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals Conference, September 3-6, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA.

This September 14-19, at the 12th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), 200 young researchers in mathematics and computer science will spend a week of scientific exchange with the recipients of the disciplines’ most prestigious prizes: the Abel Prize, ACM A.M. Turing Award, ACM Prize in Computing, Fields Medal, the Nevanlinna Prize as well as its continuation, the IMU Abacus Medal. Below are a few highlights of the upcoming program of the HLF as well as a breakdown of how to cover this unique event.

Innovation Center of NanoMedicine (iCONM), in collaboration with Prof. Takahiro Nomoto's Lab at the University of Tokyo, will hold a seminar on drug design and rationalization of treatment protocols for photodynamic therapy (PDT) based on singlet oxygen imaging on September 19, at 1:30 pm. This is based on a Japan-Germany Bilateral Collaboration Research between DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), with the aim of expanding the framework for joint research on the topic PDT and stimulating its international collaboration.

Artificial Intelligence for a Better World – Since 1969

The 34th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) takes place August 16–22, 2025 in Montréal, Canada, bringing together over 2,000 AI researchers, practitioners, and thought leaders. On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the University of Pittsburgh Cyber Energy Center and Pitt Cyber hosted “Transforming Cybersecurity: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Risk, Technology, and Policy.” The in-person, day-long workshop brought together experts from across industries and disciplines to assess the current state of cybersecurity through a multidisciplinary lens.
