Critical Path Institute today announced the outcomes of its Global Impact Conference, held September 9–11 in Washington, D.C. Over three days of working sessions, regulators, industry leaders, researchers, clinicians, and patient advocates outlined priority actions and next steps to further strengthen collaborations that accelerate drug development across rare diseases, neurology, type-1 diabetes, and pediatrics — with the voices of those with lived experience playing a critical role in shaping the discussions.

What challenges do regional labour markets in Vietnam and in Hesse share? And what can each side learn from the other’s solutions? Questions like these will be at the heart of the discussions of this month’s conference of the European Network on Regional Labour Market Monitoring, which brings together more than 100 experts from Europe, Asia and Africa at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of the European legume breeding activities and output is the goal of the BELIS innovation project launched in October 2023. The project's key objectives are to develop cost-effective breeding tools, improve the economic and regulatory environment for legume breeding, and ensure efficient innovation transfer through a collaborative platform for public private partnership. BELIS project has its annual meeting from 9-11 sept at the premises of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops (IFVC) in Novi-Sad, Serbia. The meeting is gathering together all the project partners to present advancements achieved so far, to plan for next activities and to reflect on some of the key avenues for improving and innovating in legume breeding. The programme will also include an open day for the BELIS Network stakeholders to hear about and discuss on the BELIS approaches and advances and to visit the IFVC legume experimental fields and a commercial farm.

Rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are leading to profound changes in research and development as well as in society and everyday life. Machines now analyse huge amounts of data, and assist with image and text creation, medical diagnoses, and decision-making processes. This year’s Annual Assembly of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina focuses on the opportunities and risks associated with these developments. In Halle (Saale)/Germany on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 September, international experts will discuss the progress that artificial intelligence has made, the ways in which various AI applications are revolutionising research, and the resulting challenges facing society.
