On May 26, the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) welcomed a European delegation from the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI), marking a significant milestone in strengthening scientific ties between Canada and Europe in the field of high-intensity laser science. The visit was part of a cross-Canada tour organized in partnership with the Hungarian and Czech  Embassies, host countries of the ELI facilities. 

At the heart of this meeting was a shared commitment to advancing ultrafast laser science and training the next generation of highly skilled researchers. INRS, internationally recognized for its work in advanced materials, nanotechnology, photonics, telecommunications, and sustainable energy, found in ELI a natural partner with world-class research infrastructure. 

As antibiotic resistance reaches critical levels worldwide, the 8th World Congress on Targeting Phage Therapy (June 10–11, 2025) returns to Berlin, bringing together over 75 international speakers and contributors from 27 countries. The congress offers the most comprehensive scientific and clinical update on phage therapy—a once-overlooked solution now at the forefront of next-generation medicine.

On May 22-23, a select group of scientists from around the world gathered in the small town of Acciaroli in the Cilento-Salerno region of Italy to review a decade’s worth of research in the ongoing Cilento Initiative on Aging Outcomes (CIAO), a longitudinal study of local residents 100 years and older.   

The first-in-class antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) pivekimab sunirine (PVEK) demonstrated promising efficacy and high response rates for patients with blastic plasmacytoid dendric cell neoplasm (BPDCN), according to data from a Phase I/II study led by researchers from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF) is hosting a free webinar, “Does Cannabis Use During Pregnancy Affect Gene Regulation In Placental Tissue?” on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 2:00 pm ET. Emma C. Johnson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will be the guest speaker. The session will be hosted by Jeffrey Borenstein, M.D., President & CEO of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation and host of the Emmy® nominated television series Healthy Minds.

The Second International Conference on Space Science and Technology was successfully held in Suzhou, China, from May 22 to 24, 2025. Over 300 experts, scholars, and corporate representatives from more than ten countries gathered to discuss cutting-edge research and innovations in the aerospace field. The conference, hosted by Beijing Institute of Technology and co-organized by several institutions, featured a main forum and four sub-forums with over 30 high-quality reports on topics like deep space exploration, intelligent aerospace technology, and aerospace information processing. It aimed to foster global cooperation and cross-disciplinary innovation in space science and technology. The next venue of the conference will be held at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore from July 22 to 24, 2025.

Chemistry needs to become more sustainable and urgent actions are needed. That is the main message of the Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future that was launched at the Nobel Prize Museum on 23 May.
