Researchers investigating the economic costs of forest restoration find that more up-front investment in tree diversity leads to greater long-term benefits

A study in Science Advances assessed the contribution of pollinators to international market flows and showed that nature conservation worldwide is essential to sustain current food consumption patterns. This interdisciplinary research across the fields of economics, ecology and environmental sciences revealed that developed countries are particularly reliant on imported pollinator-dependent crops from less-developed countries, where cropland expansion is reducing pollinators' natural habitat. Global governance should address the linkages between biodiversity, crop production and food consumption.

Group affiliated with a FAPESP-supported research center showed that the parasite blocks the action of an enzyme using autophagy.

Brazilian researchers tested the capacity of different materials to produce sensors for the detection of PCA3, a gene that is overexpressed in prostate cancer. The technique can also be used to diagnose infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

A new global evaluation of the conservation of plant genetic resources is published as nations discuss new biodiversity conservation targets at the Convention on Biological Diversity

In a study of the effects of cigarette smoking on exacerbation of the disease, scientists at a FAPESP-supported research center identified a novel pathway in the inflammatory process relating to bone damage.

Article published by Brazilian researchers in Sports Medicine presents a systematic review of scientific studies on the topic.

The study showed that not only the composition of the material but also its geometry influenced the effect of the nanoparticles on the enzyme.

In 2018, the West African nation decided to restore 5 million hectares of degraded land by 2030. New research shows what works - and what doesn't - when restoration coincides with degraded landscapes, pressure on natural resources and climate change.
