From tailored Netflix recommendations to personalised Facebook feeds, artificial intelligence (AI) adeptly serves content that matches our preferences and past behaviours. But while a restaurant tip or two is handy, how comfortable would you be if AI-algorithms were in charge of your medical expert or new hire?

Researchers have demonstrated a new suite of software tools that analyzes student behavior in an educational game in real time and uses that data to assess how well students are developing and making use of collaborative problem-solving (CPS) skills. These real-time assessments can be used to modify the game in response to student behavior in order to improve learning.

An innovative teaching and learning project led by Dr. Tim Yung of the Faculty of Arts with Dr. Mei Li Khong of the LKS Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and educators from Tecnológico de Monterrey, International Islamic University Malaysia and Srinakharinwirot University won the Global Silver award for the Sustainability Education Literacy at the 2024 QS Reimagine Education Awards. The winning project is titled “Cross-Cultural Classroom (3C): Empowering Future Leaders with Sustainable Citizenship”. This collaboration between educators from the four universities equipped students from different disciplines (Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Medicine) to build local sustainability solutions on a global scale by accounting for cross-cultural contexts.
