Genotype-guided antidepressant prescribing for patients with depression

About The Study: In this randomized clinical trial, genotype-guided prescribing of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) did not improve control of depression symptoms at 3 months compared with usual care but was associated with higher depression remission rates at 6 months. These findings suggest a possible longer-term clinical benefit and indicate that future studies should focus on the durability and long-term impact of genotype-guided prescribing in the management of depressive symptoms.

The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine) today announced a research partnership with MitoQ New Zealand to examine the potential role of MitoQ® (mitoquinol mesylate), a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant, in supporting healthy ageing. Building on existing scientific literature, the partnership aims to generate evidence on whether MitoQ® can slow or improve markers of biological ageing and support longevity potential. The joint study will also evaluate the effectiveness of biological ageing clocks in assessing health supplements and other interventions more rapidly than conventional long-term clinical trials.

Quantum algorithms for improving surface coatings

In addition to immediate health risks, UV radiation also poses indirect hazards: it corrodes surface coatings on exposed objects (e.g., on aircraft and bridges) and attacks the coated materials. The underlying molecular processes (polymer degradation) are extremely complex. Therefore, a consortium coordinated by Fraunhofer IAF is working within the framework of the BMFTR-funded QPolyDeg project to develop novel quantum algorithms for simulating polymer degradation. Quantum chemical calculations are intended to enable more durable coatings for industrial applications.
