Researchers analyzed data on more than 20,000 patients admitted to hospitals for COVID-19. After controlling for patient age, sex, comorbidities, and severity of disease when the patient was admitted, they found that none of these factors fully explained the decline in mortality rates.

The research team at National Institute of Informatics developed a technique to search automatically for simulation configurations that test various behaviors of automated driving systems. This research was conducted under ERATO-MMSD project. The proposed technique iterates trials on simulations using an optimization method called evolutionary computation so that it discovers simulation configurations that lead to specific features of driving behaviors such as high acceleration, deceleration, and steering operation. This research was presented in ICST 2021.

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has released white papers on "Beyond 5G/6G" and "Quantum Network" to accelerate R&D collaboration with other research institutions. The white papers summarize the social vision and use cases that are expected to be realized through the progress of Beyond 5G/6G and quantum network technologies, as well as the key technologies and R&D roadmap necessary to realize them.
A new study finds black patients are more likely to die after their heart bypass surgery if they're at a hospital where some care teams see mostly white patients and others see mostly black patients. On the other hand, mortality rates are comparable between black and white patients after heart bypass surgery when the teams of health care providers at their hospitals all care for patients of all races.
