Floods linked to rise in US deaths from several major causes
Columbia University's Mailman School of Public HealthPeer-Reviewed Publication
Over the last 20 years, large floods were associated with up to 24.9 percent higher death rates from major mortality causes in the U.S. compared to normal conditions. CryoSCAPE: Allen Institute scientists develop ‘suspended animation’ technique for blood draws that will aid research for underserved populations
Allen InstitutePeer-Reviewed Publication
Scientists at the Allen Institute have developed a new blood stabilization technique that preserves the molecular integrity of blood samples so that they can exist outside the body for longer periods. This allows researchers and clinicians the ability to help remote, underserved communities that are located farther from urban research centers (where sample analysis happens) and will increase health equity by allowing for more clinical trail enrollment from diverse communities currently underserved and under-benefitted by science and scientific discovery.
