Thanks to its newly tilted orbit around the Sun, the European Space Agency-led Solar Orbiter spacecraft is the first to image the Sun’s poles from outside the ecliptic plane. Solar Orbiter’s unique viewing angle will change our understanding of the Sun’s magnetic field, the solar cycle and the workings of space weather.

A research paper by scientists at Peking University Third Hospital proposed a parameter-adjustable photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy apparatus to screen for the optimal PBM parameters for treating ischemic stroke and preventing post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI).

The new research paper, published on May. 6 in the journal Cyborg and Bionic Systems, provide a PBM therapy apparatus with custom parameters. By evaluating the treatment effect, we identified that 755 nm was the optimal light wavelength for ischemic stroke in rats with transient middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion.

Two BeiDou-3 satellites, once plagued by puzzling orbit errors, are now operating with newfound precision thanks to a breakthrough modeling strategy.

In a paper published in Astronomical Techniques and Instruments, the Solar Close Observations and Proximity Experiments (SCOPE) mission will send a spacecraft into the solar atmosphere at a low altitude of just 5 R☉ from the solar center. It aims to elucidate the mechanisms behind solar eruptions and coronal heating, and to directly measure the coronal magnetic field.

SAN ANTONIO — June 10, 2025 — Southwest Research Institute’s Dr. Craig DeForest discussed the latest accomplishments of NASA’s PUNCH (Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere) mission during a media event at the 246th American Astronomical Society meeting in Anchorage, Alaska. As the spacecraft constellation completes commissioning, early PUNCH data showed coronal mass ejections, or CMEs, as they erupted from the Sun and traveled across the inner solar system.
